Fairleigh Dickenson University offers this essentially free 10 week program to veterans, spouses and children of veterans. (They ask for a deposit that is refundable if you complete the course). I found the course to be well structured (three in-person all day sessions and weekly conf. calls). VLV gave practical small business advice for established industries, however it may not be so helpful for newer industries as many of the mentors are from an older generation. They provided a great comprehensive written step-by-step guide describing what should be considered when started a business. The weekly conference calls require much improvement - they were disorganized with no agenda and participant attendance was low. Overall I thought it was a great experience, they just need some improvement!

This whole program is "good intentions- bad execution." The Professors who run it are really good guys. The 1 hour group phone sessions (15+ people on one line when discussing individual projects across a spectrum of industries) are useless. The business mentors, are largely experienced in industries that are no longer relevant, and have a serious gap in their knowledge of the internet/social media. Some of them genuinely don't care. Others tried extremely hard, and I was very thankful for them. The program has almost no resources, and introduces little to no knowledge that is useful to an entrepreneur getting a business off the ground. Very dry book stuff material, if the course was semester(s) long, it would eventually reach a useful point.
