A focused, 10-week theater program using workshops, techniques, and performance to assist veterans in transition and mindfulness
Uses theater techniques over a course of several weeks, the program is designed to help military Veterans reintegrate from military service back into their communities.
Having served 50 years ago, transitioning to civilian life was had its ups and downs. De-cruit is a tremendous asset to coming to grips with issues I never thought of before participating.
DECRUIT applies life skills as well as learning to be an awesome actor. I felt vulnerability with control. I felt supported without being patronized. This is the best thing that happened to my career and my life. I don't know of any other organization that can help the veteran on multiple levels of their existence and come home to a life to thrive in and not just survive in.
I would recommend this program to military veterans prior to leaving the military

I never thought about using techniques for acting to combat stress... it works! The principles behind it help, the instructor is great, and the program is totally worth the mental investment. This guy takes you through everything, never puts you on the spot, makes you understand what you are learning and how to use it in your daily life, A really interesting concept for someone who hated acting before trying this program (and still not a big fan of acting, but he makes the process fun) It's ten committed weeks, one day a week. That's a lot to ask sometimes. I've been able to modify it and do drop ins, but I'm not sure if I'm missing out on something because of the modified program. None
De-Cruit is a phenomenal resource for anyone who is currently dealing with any kind of adjustment issues or post-traumatic stress, whether you've been out of the military for five months or forty years. The staff personally tailors the experience to each veteran while offering a solid basis in techniques. No prior acting experience is required. The program also opens the door to a large network of other veterans and opportunities.
